STREET SPRINKLE: WINTER CHIC

I've always been a fan of mixing navy and black together, especially during the winter. When I spotted Zoey my eyes were instantly drawn to her black velvet wrap skirt, paired with a navy/gray sweater. I looked down to see her dark navy tights and black booties to complete the look. With minimal accessories and a stylish tweed coat with leather sleeves (and an add-on fur collar), I could definitely see myself in this outfit. I like how the simple pieces came together to create an overall chic look. What a perfect winter ensemble!

Ironically, I found out that Zoey is a stylist and is the owner of LITTLEbird Style, a (life)styling company for teens & kids, which has been featured in many top magazines. No wonder she had such great style!

HUSTLE AND GROW!

So we've all heard of the movie, "Hustle and Flow," the gritty tale of an aspiring rapper/pimp who confronted all odds while chasing his dreams. But does one need a typical rags to rags (with a POSSIBILITY of riches) tale in order to come to certain realizations? Inevitably, through confronting life's experiences you learn that sometimes a hustle is just that... a hustle, but can never develop into more without the application of the knowledge gained from those situational encounters.

There are huge generational figures that are reflective of the ubiquitous term "hustler." Donald Trump, Jay-Z, and Diddy to name a few. But what are the identifiable traits that links real estate tycoons to rappers? The ability to take risks, live fearlessly, and learn from mistakes.

Relaunching Red Sprinkle has not been without its own qualms. The larger difficulty being determining exactly what our direction and focus should be. Indeed, as a vintage boutique it achieved success, however, what would be most reflective of our individual styles and allow us to utilize our talents? Thus, a revitalized effort was born; one that reflects our strength as women, as entrepreneurs, and as artists.

Without a climatic end, but with a hopeful future we welcome you to share in our passion for all things creative and fabulous! As we grow as a company, our "hustler" spirit is unwavering, because we now have the application of life experiences to correct missteps, and to help plan for a promising future. So again, does one need a typical gritty past to have a successful future? Certainly not. One just needs to hustle, with a bit of growth.

ALLOW US TO REINTRODUCE OURSELVES...

My bestie is always telling me that I need to blog. I personally find it hard. I have never been a fan of sharing details about myself that I'm not sure if people would even care about, or worse, that they won't even read. How would I translate my experiences in developing my business without venturing too far into personal territory? In re-launching Red Sprinkle I have found that my work and my personal life will always be connected, and it would be hard to discuss one without mentioning the other. As much as I've debated with her, I do think it's important to have a running log of things that are occurring in your life. This blog is ours.

Starting your own business is hard. It's a tough decision to decide that you want to step out on your own and take the risk of being an entrepreneur, rather than working for your current employer. It takes an extreme amount of discipline, patience, tough skin, and everything in between. These are things you read about in articles and books before taking the plunge, but it truly doesn't resonate until you venture out on your own. That moment that you decide: "I want to be an entrepreneur."

The HBO series How to Make it in America is a great depiction of the struggle to become an entrepreneur and making a name for yourself in a big-time city. The main characters are attempting to make that name in NYC, we're trying to make that name in DC. Now DC is an emerging city, definitely not as big as NYC, but it's slowing getting there (as native Washingtonians we've definitely seen its growth from years prior). Watching the series we can undoubtedly identify with the characters in trying to make and maintain contacts, being in the right place at the right time, and lastly, having a product that you think is worth sharing with the world. Previously, Red Sprinkle was an online consignment boutique specializing in vintage and modern clothing. We haven't lost our vintage roots, we've just expanded to now become a visual design firm. Our second time around we're letting our readers into this journey, this struggle as you will, in trying to grow a business in an ever-growing city. We'll share our trials, our errors, our good times (and bad), in our quest to establish a successful company in Washington, DC. This is the new Red Sprinkle. Join us as we slip on our high heels and start painting the town red.
